Jim located his office in Grandville, Michigan in 1984. Jim has been involved in representing individuals and businesses in a wide range of issues in both District and Circuit Courts throughout West Michigan for 30 years.

While maintaining his law practice, Jim has also been active in both public and non-public capacities. He has been a member of a number of foundations, boards, and community groups. He was elected to the Grandville City Council in 1993 and was re-elected in 1997. During his tenure on City Council, Jim’s legal experience was broadened to include a wide range of other issues that may come before a Court or a local governmental unit. His experience of negotiated settlements between opposing parties earned Jim the respect and public trust associated with decisive leadership and a commitment to the public good.

Jim was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives by the citizens of Kent County in 1998 and served with distinction for six (6) years through 2004. During that time, Jim received many awards for his service and leadership in the Michigan House of Representatives. Because of his leadership in law, Jim was placed on numerous committees, including the House Judicial Committee. He was a member of the State of Michigan Law Review Commission and was appointed by then Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Maura Corrigan as a member of the Record Production Work Group. He served with then Court of Appeals Judge Michael R. Smolenski and Supreme Court Judge Michael R. Kavanagh to streamline the efficiency of Michigan Courts.


Jim is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Grand Rapids Bar Association, Michigan Association of Realtors, and Grand Rapids Association of Realtors.
