ABOUT RHC INSURANCE HISTORY OF RHC INSURANCE BROKERS LTD.
RHC Insurance Brokers Ltd. is an amalgamation of a series of companies over the years. In 1908 Mr. Robertson, Mr. Hilliard and Mr. Catell, formed RHC Real Estate and Insurance. Over the years, the real estate and insurance sides were separated. The Darough family became the owners of the company in 1972. Rod McDonald Insurance Agencies was formed when McDonald Mason Realty and Insurance was separated into Insurance and Real Estate in 1980.
In 1996, Rod McDonald Insurance and RHC Insurance were amalgamated to form RHC McDonald Insurance Brokers Ltd. By this time Stu McDonald had succeeded from his father Rod, who had retired. RHC had two offices in Nelson, one on Baker Street and one in the Mall. Tammy Darough joined the team in 1998 in the financial end of the business.
In 2003, RHC more than doubled its size overnight with the purchase of Curriers Insurance Agencies adding the Trail, Castlegar, Rossland and Grand Forks offices. During the next two years the company was known as RHC McDonald Curriers Insurance Brokers Ltd to connect all the offices together. In July 2005 the company name was legally simplified to RHC Insurance Brokers Ltd. Now, we have more than 40 licensed professional insurance brokers.
In 2011, RHC merged its operations with Anderson Insurance of Castlegar & New Denver, BC. Longtime Anderson Insurance owner Carvil Moorey retired after 39 years at the helm and his son Scott Moorey who had been a co-owner & operator for 19 years joined RHC as a equal partner with Tammy Darough. Stu Mcdonald sold his shares of RHC to Moorey & Darough & retired in February 2011. Today, RHC Insurance Brokers has 8 offices centrally located in most communities of the West Kootenay and has 59 dedicated loyal employees to serve you with your insurance needs.
