Geothermal
What is Geothermal?

Ground source heat pumps tap the natural geothermal energy underground to heat and cool your home. A fluid is circulated through an underground loop of polyethylene pipe. This is called a closed loop system. The fluid absorbs heat from the earth during the winter and dissipates heat from the house during the summer. The heat or cold from the fluid is converted to hot or cool air by circulating it through water-to-refrigerant and refrigerant-to-air heat exchangers.
The loop of polyethylene pipe buried in the ground can be installed vertically or horizontally outside of the home. Depending on location, the pipes can also be coiled in a pond rather than buried underground. Open loop systems use ground water pumped from the ground and then discharged. This system is often called a "Pump and Dump" system.

What incentives do I have to go "Geothermal"?
Unsurpassed comfort is only half of the benefits that a GeoComfort geothermal system offers. Homeowners like you see up to 70% savings in your monthly heating, cooling, and hot water bills. Recent legislation in both the U.S. and Canada have created new incentives for qualified geothermal systems. The recent American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 in the U.S. offers a 30% tax credit for the installation cost of geothermal systems, with no cap. Also you will receive unmatched rebates from your local utility company.
